In Fort McMurray, one of the
busiest oil and gas regions in Canada,
the Fort McMurray Airport (YMM)
is responding to the need for added
capacity to bring people in and out of
the area—supporting future economic
growth and stability.
CIO had the opportunity to speak
with Scott Clements, President & CEO
of the airport authority, to discuss how
the expansion project will benefit the
Fort McMurray region and help sus-
tain communities.
GROWING THE AIRPORT,
GROWING CAPACITY
The Fort McMurray Airport Au-
thority, currently the employer of al-
most 100 people, is set to increase ca-
pacity when the new terminal opens in
early June. In 2013, the airport, which
has a goal to become Canada’s pre-
mier regional airport, saw close to 1.2
million passengers travel through it.
The current terminal was only meant
to handle 250,000—this clearly posed
