THE CITY OF PETERBOROUGH
MUNICIPAL FOCUS:
I
N OUR MUNIC I PAL I T Y
focus for May, CIO presents a look at Peterborough. Mayor Daryl Ben-
nett had the following to say about working, and living, in the Electric City:
We welcome international business to Peterborough, and our record of success is a good measure of
the high quality business environment that we offer.”
We have a number of large and relatively stable private and public sector employers who provide
market stability. Our growth sectors build on existing success in the fields of health care, the water-
related sector, the nuclear sector, the aviation sector and retailing. Unlike other communities, our
manufacturing sector remains strong and adaptable, and we benefit substantially from the work of
Trent University, Fleming College and the new Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre. Our newly
expanded Peterborough Airport holds great promise for the attraction of new business.”
I think that it all comes down to a quality of life. We have a basket of attributes that is appealing.
We are located in a region of outstanding recreational and tourism opportunities. We are urban but
small town ... sophisticated but friendly ... and relatively affordable. We have access to the Greater
Toronto Area as well as village and rural life, and good access to markets.”
