LEMON PARK IN
Summerside,
Prince Edward Island, has put
PEI “on the map” in many respects.
The history of the facilities at Sle-
mon Park originate in the early part of
the 40s, when a decision was made to
open a base in Prince Edward Island
to support air training. By 1948, the
RCAF Air Navigation School was es-
tablished and provided pilot and navi-
gator training. Alongside the increased
activity at the base was a need for
housing, infrastructure and other edu-
cational facilities—and so Slemon Park
was named after Air Vice Marshall Roy
Slemon.

In 1992, the former CFB Summer-
side property was transferred to new
ownership, Slemon Park Corporation.
The current group that manages Sle-
mon Park develops and runs commer-
cial and residential facilities on the site.
Slemon Park is now home to
some of the world’s most innovative
companies and training organizations.
These organizations rely on the cohe-
siveness of the Corporation to run day-
to-day operations in aerospace, avia-
tion, police, and security. According to
the Slemon Park website, “The current
residents, students and staff of orga-
nizations at Slemon Park are proud to
be associated with the fine people who
have served in military and civilian ca-
pacities at RCAF Station Summerside
and at CFB Summerside.”
CIO had the opportunity to con-
nect with Shawn McCarvill, current
President and CEO of Slemon Park,
and Larry Gaudet, Director of Market-
ing, Development and Training, who
discussed the future of Slemon Park,
and the Park’s importance to PEI, and
Canada.
