Page 4-5 - CIO_FEB-MAR2013

When considering the content of this month’s is-
sue, and the upcoming April issue, I got to thinking
about the importance of brand.
More specifically, I was thinking about the impor-
tance of recognizing an organization or identity by
its “brand,” “mark” or “calling card” (these are not
synonyms but have been used to reference an com-
pany’s identification). For CIO, part of the reason
for our memorability in the marketplace is that we
are identified with the same acronym (thus being
an easy name to remember) as one of a company’s
greatest assets: their Chief Information Officer
(
CIO), the person who is responsible for content and
information on behalf of an organization. While we
only attempt to represent the content of the orga-
nizations celebrated within these pages once in an
issue, we consider ourselves responsible for their
brands for that brief time.
Among the brands we celebrate this month are
BIT (Bercell Integrated Technologies), SNOLAB (the
evolved Sudbury Neutrino Laboratory), and finally
the first in our Famous Canadian Brands Series:
Canada Goose.
Everyone knows what Canada Goose makes. If you
don’t, you may be an international CIO reader. In
that case, flip to page 24, and learn just how impor-
tant Canadian companies consider their “brand” to
be in this great country. How we identify and cel-
ebrate our businesses carries forward, in the good
times, and the bad--and Canada Goose is a great
example of how you can take your brand to the next
level.
Stay tuned for our April issue for more acronym-
identifiable organizations: PDAC, DGC, AFL, and
more...until next time,
