north and helping to create stronger
communities. Last year, Northwestel
donated more than $600,000 to com-
munity groups in Yukon, NWT and
Nunavut and our employees volun-
teers more than 2200 hours of their
time at community events. Investing
in our communities in something we
value and encourage.
CIO:
What is the appeal for new
workers, and people curious about
working in northern Canada?
LV:
We are constantly ensuring
that we have the right culture internal-
ly to meet the needs of our customers;
we need to be a very flexible and nim-
ble organization to meet those needs.
From an employment perspective, the
North provides amazing opportuni-
ties – a very true statement is “that
you can be anything you want in the
North.” People that want to work hard
and step up to challenges find that
employers across the North are look-
ing for good people to invest in. They
will help you learn new skills, tackle
new projects and move your career
forward.
The north is not for everybody,
but it is a wonderful place for people
that are community oriented. We have
more amenities than any other city of
26,000
in Canada. We have lots of arts,
culture, sports and recreation. No com-
mute here is longer than 10 minutes.
I can run, cross country ski, mountain
bike, all on my lunch break. We’re a
small organization in terms of how our
industry works, but a big organization
for the north. And our goal is to create
build an even better environment in
the north.
